IBM announces creation of the most powerful quantum computer

IBM announced the creation of a 50-qubit quantum computer, Technology Review reports. Representatives of the company say this achievement will be a new stage in the development of quantum technologies: supercomputers can today emulate the work of 20-qubit quantum computers, and the capacity limit of previously created simulations is 49 qubits.

IBM also reports on the improvement of quantum cloud computing software.

Dario Gil, head of IBM's quantum direction, said that the company continues setting new records and is a world leader in quantum development. Accessibility for a wide range of users, not only scientists, is one of the priority tasks, he added.

IBM's statement about the creation of a 50-qubit computer has already been criticized.

Andrew Childs, a professor at the University of Maryland, said that there is too little information about the technology, and there is no evidence of ongoing developments in scientific publications, so IBM's reports should be questioned. In addition, Childs specified, even if such a computer exists, this does not mean it will work properly.
